Painting Sacred Spaces with Renee Ortiz

Where do you feel peace? Is there a place that seems sacred to you? Join local artist, Renee Ortiz, and explore the concept of sacred space and then together you will translate this into paint on panels. The Examen Through Art Journaling:
a creative way to reflect on the past year through an ancient prayer practice

The quiet that follows the holidays is a natural time to reflect on this past year. Join us at the Journey Center as we use the Examen prayer practice to guide a time of art journaling. Imagine a cozy time together with hot cocoa and some treats as we become aware of the Divine’s presence, reflect on the year with gratitude, and pay attention to our various experiences then express them through art.

No previous experience necessary. It’s more about the process then the end result. Come and discover your inner artist. If you don’t have an art journal, paper and art supplies will be provided. More>

Come and join artist Alana Ciena Tillman for a fun night of painting, sampling appetizers, wine and other beverages and living into your creative side. Alana has been featured in the Journey Center Art Gallery and has launched a business, ArtXcursion, that she calls an “artistic staycation.” Alana and her team provide the painting supplies, some tips and tricks, and the small bites and beverages. This evening will be about fun and dabbling in the arts. As Alana says, “We encourage an inclusive experience, while bringing all painting levels and abilities together. ArtXcursion’s goal is to help you discover your creative destination.” More>

Listening to Your Still, Small Voice (collage)

Meets four Sundays, October 18 and 25, November 1 and 8, 6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
For adults, making art with words and media can be a minefield. Our distraction with getting it right or making it look good can get in the way of being squarely in the moment with all our senses activated and our bodies engaged with the materials before us. Collage bypasses the internal critic and accesses our deeper mind, while at the same time allowing us to have fun and share our art with others. No experience necessary! More>

Prayer Collage/Vision Board Class

Kid Street School 2nd Graders Quilt Project: Help at-risk children at Kid Street create a beautiful quilt for their classroom!

Four consecutive Fridays, January 31 - February 2, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Join our Kid Street children's quilting project even if you have never sewn a single stitch in your life! Kalia Mussetter, who has taught quilting and other arts at Kid Street since 2003, will provide instruction in how to best work with our kids in this safe, supportive, fun (and often funny!) process. Participants will learn the basic principles of quilting, how to teach the process to children, and how to volunteer in positive, helpful ways with kids who face extra challenges in life. More>
