Q. Is my donation tax deductible?

A. The Journey Center is a 501(c)(3) designated non-profit organization. All donations to the Journey Center are tax deductible. However, payments for events, services or items are not tax-deductible as you are receiving something in exchange for your payment.

Q. What is Paypal? How does it work? What forms of payment can I use with PayPal?

A. PayPal is an online payment system that facilitates transfers of funds from one party to another without using checks or money transfers. The "payer" can set up an account to pay for items online using PayPal. The "payer" can choose whether funds come from their bank account directly or by charging a credit card. The "payer" can also transfer money into their PayPal account from their bank account (or by receiving payments from others) and pay for items with their PayPal account balance. The "payee" receives the funds into their PayPal account and can then transfer this money to their own bank account or use it to shop online.

Q. Why do I need to use PayPal to give you an online donation or payment?

A. If you are giving a one-time donation or paying for an event, you can do so using your credit card without signing up for a PayPal account (although, we highly recommend you do sign up for a PayPal account because it makes online payments much easier and you'll have a way to track all your donations and payments). For recurring donations, you are required to sign up for a PayPal account so that we can automatically collect the money at the interval you specify. Having a PayPal account also allows you to log in and track your recurring donations, as well as make changes or cancel the donation.

Q. Doesn't online giving require some extra fees or costs?

A. Not to you. The full amount that you donate goes to the Journey Center and is considered a tax-deductible gift. (Or if paying for an event, service or item, the full amount will be applied.) There is a small fee to the Journey Center for the processing of credit and debit cards, but we handle that behind-the-scenes.

Q. How is my donation or payment documented? Will I receive an end-of-the-year summary of my donations?

A. The Journey Center receives an email notice when you make a donation or payment online. (You will also be emailed a receipt.) We track your donations and payments in our accounting system. We will make a note of any payment for an event, service or item, but please also remember to bring your receipt with you when attending or collecting your item in case there are any questions. Regarding donations, at the end of the year, the Journey Center will mail you a receipt for your total donation amount throughout the year, including donations made through PayPal and other methods. (Payments for events, services or material goods are not tax-deductible and will not be included in this receipt.) You should also keep all your receipts from Paypal to compare to the year-end reports the Journey Center sends out.

Q. What address will my end-of-the-year summary go to?

A. When you sign up for a PayPal account or enter your credit card billing information, you will enter a billing address to be used for that payment method. That is the address PayPal automatically gives to us. If you would like your end-of-the-year donation receipt to be mailed to a different address, you can change the mailing address on the PayPal page where you review and finalize your donation. You will see an address listed next to "Mailing Address:". Click on "Change" and type in the address you would like your end-of-the-year summary to go to.

Q. Does online giving put my sensitive financial information at risk?

A. Online giving is actually less risky than handwritten checks. An online transaction cannot be lost, stolen, or destroyed in the mail. When you give through PayPal, the Journey Center does NOT see sensitive details like your debit card or bank account number and with a PayPal account, you remain in control of your financial information and giving. PayPal is the world's leading online payment gateway and has a highly evolved system for securing your personal data. However, online identity and financial theft does occur. You take this risk upon yourself when you use any online system. (The Journey Center will not be held legally responsible in any way for any theft or personal damage that occurs as a result of you using PayPal for online donations or payments to the Journey Center.)

Q. Can I leave a comment about how I would like you to use my donation or regarding my event payment?

A. Yes. When making a one-time donation, after either logging into your PayPal account or after entering your credit card information, you will be taken to a donation review page. On this page, you will see a link that says, "Click to enter comments regarding this donation." Click there and leave us a comment. For recurring donations, there is a text box on the Journey Center donation page for you to leave a comment. There is a limit, though, of characters allowed. For a more detailed message, please email us at . For notes on event payments, after either logging into your Paypal account or after entering your credit card information, you will see a box that says "Comments regarding event payment". Enter your notes to us there.

Q. How can I cancel or change my recurring donation?

A. You can cancel your recurring donation to the Journey Center by logging into your PayPal account and finding the subscription under the "My Preapproved Payments" section. Click here for further instructions. Alternately, to make it easier for you, we have included an "Unsubscribe" button on our donation page. Click on this button, which will take you to a login page for your PayPal account. PayPal will automatically bring up your subscription with us and then you can click on the "cancel" link. To change your recurring donation (amount, time frame, etc.), please contact us with the changes you would like. Some features are only available for changes on our end.

Q. I'm stuck. Can the Journey Center help me manage my recurring donation?

A. Yes. We can change or cancel your recurring donation on our end. If you are stuck, please send an email to indicating what changes you would like to your recurring donation and instructions on how to contact you.
